From 2005 until his passing, David was an extraordinary colleague, mentor, and friend whose presence left an enduring mark on his teammates at Clark Capital.

David joined the firm through its acquisition of RTE Asset Management, where he had served as President and Chief Investment Officer. A true innovator, he began developing economically based, quantitatively driven models as early as the late 1970s. As Director of Research at Clark Capital, he continued to advance thoughtful, disciplined approaches to security selection and portfolio construction, drawing on decades of technical expertise and a deep passion for financial history. His work formed the backbone of many of the firm’s investment processes and reflected his commitment to rigorous research and continuous improvement.

Those who worked closely with David remember him both for his intellect and for his generosity of spirit. He had a remarkable ability to make time for others, often stopping by to share what became affectionately known as “David’s Ruminations.” These conversations, part market lesson, part economic reflection, part life wisdom, were moments that shaped both personal and professional growth for many. His mentorship, curiosity, and willingness to share his knowledge made a lasting impact on colleagues throughout the firm and across the industry.

David’s influence extended beyond Clark Capital. RTE, the firm he built, became a home for developing talent, and many of its alumni continue to hold important roles throughout the investment industry. Yet those who had the privilege of working with him remember most the person behind the expertise: a thoughtful, humble, and supportive presence who cared about the people around him.

David will be deeply missed. His legacy lives on in the culture he helped shape, in the countless lessons he imparted, and in the many colleagues whose lives and careers were made better by knowing him.
